Sixteen years in software testing, the first six of them manual and the rest building the automation and the process around it. I've worked mostly in banking and health, which is to say places where a bad release has consequences that aren't measured in refunds. My view is that the tests matter less than whether anyone acts on them, so a lot of my work is really about reporting, triage habits and getting teams to stop rerunning a flaky suite until it goes green. I write a lot of documentation, partly because I like it and partly because I've inherited too many test suites nobody could explain. I mentor juniors when I can and I'm told I'm blunt about it.
