Eighteen years in embedded work, which means firmware, the boards it runs on, and increasingly the servers that talk to them, because a device on its own has stopped being a product. Most of my career has been in industrial and utility settings where things are installed once and expected to run for a decade with nobody visiting them, and that shapes how I think about everything — I am the person in the room asking what happens when this fails at three in the morning six hundred kilometres away. I am slow to adopt things. I have made an account here mainly because a former colleague kept telling me to, and I have put up one piece of work rather than pretend I have a portfolio.
